Originally developed as a scheme to attract visitors to this rural outpost, the Carne Golf Links has arose to become a true gem of Irish golf. Carne was designed by the legend Eddie Hacket, whose made enormous contributions to Irish golf, including the design of Waterville. Like its more famous sibling, Hacket believed that human influences should remain minimal in the making of the Carne Golf Links. Carne Golf Links exudes a feeling of unspoilt nature. Best have firm feet and a flare for creative shot making because Carne, with its undulating terrain, blind shots, and persistent inclement weather, provides ample challenge any golfer. Carne remains among the rarest of hidden gems, not to be missed.

Our Take
With a strong Atlantic wind and rain threatening, we ventured onto this splendid course and found it most enchanting. As is often the case at Carne, we played against the conditions as well as the course. It was windy, sunny, misty, pouring and mild all in one round: unforgettable! The holes were challenging but the views, especially on the back nine, were magnificent is barren, bleak and deadly quiet. You will enjoy this course for what it is: unspoilt and natural, Ireland's West at its finest, a place where sheep roam free, and locals are friendly and pleased to welcome.
