The Course was designed by the renowned golf architect, Fred Hawtree, who said of his creation: "the nature of the terrain, part inland and part seaside, the panorama which it commands and its considerable golfing virtues, make it uniquely attractive and memorable."
One of the courses strongest appeals is the town of Westport itself, ideally located for visitors with several Blue Flag beaches, fishing lakes, sea angling, heritage centre, designated walks and Westport House Zoo and Park close by. It also has a large selection of well-known restaurants and pubs and its traditional music scene is legendary. Westport has a unique character, and is widely regarded as a top tourist destination in Ireland.
More than a pretty golf course in a lively tourist town, Westport Golf Club delivers a superb golfing experience. Westport has hosted numerous prestigious golf tournaments, including the staging of the 2002 Smurfit Irish P.G.A.
