Comprised of two championship links courses, the Dunluce and Valley courses, Royal Portrush weaves its way, hole after hole, through sand dunes along the famously rugged Antrim Coast.

These are exceptionally pretty courses, providing panoramic views of the Donegal hills, Giants Causeway, and the isle of Islay and Southern Hebrides. Portrush is also exceptionally challenging for golfers.

Portrush is steeped in history. The sense of history is particularly palpable on the Dunluce course, which overlooks the ruins of 13th century Dunluce Castle. On the golfing front, organized golf has been played on the site since 1888 when the railroads began delivering holiday seekers to the picturesque fishing village of Portrush.

There's nothing lowbrow about Royal Portrush. The clubhouse is a lavish spread converted from the old Holyrood Hotel. As recently as 1997, the clubhouse has undergone a major renovation. The completion was such a noteworthy undertaking that His Royal Highness The Duke of York, Prince Andrew, saw fit to officially declare it reopened for business.
