In 1891, Old Tom Morris of St. Andrews, a winner of four British Opens in the 1860's, was taking a holiday in when discovered this fine stretch of Donegal coast line. He hastened to stake-out the first Rosapenna Links, incorporating wide rolling fairways amidst the undulating terrain.
Over the years several improvements have been made, but the Old Tom Morris course retains much of its original character, exuding an old-worldly feel. In 2003, designer Pat Ruddy added to the mix, unveiling the latest of Ireland's links gems, the aptly named Sandy Hills. It is, according to Peter Acheson “A stunning modern links that funnels its way through centuries-old dunes created by and still whipped by the winds coming in off the Atlantic Ocean... a must play links course for serious golf enthusiasts!"
Despite its remote location of this hidden gem, the facilities are superb. Rosapenna Pavilion is an excellent new edition to the place, with a lovely terrace commanding stunning territorial views. On a summer day there's no finer place to luxuriate over a pint.
At the end of your rounds, look forward to the Pavilian, Rosapenna's superb new clubhouse facility. With a terrace that commands broad territorial views, its the perfect place to unwind and luxuriate over a pint of stout.
